Softball Coaches

The Ethel High School graduate and Attala County native made his mark in two sports at Holmes Community College –men’s basketball and track.  He made All-State in basketball after his sophomore season in 1974. He was a member of the MACJC state championship track team in 1973 and was state champion in the mile run his sophomore season. He was named Most Athletic at Holmes in 1974.

After Holmes, Casey attended Millsaps College, where he lettered in basketball two years and was chosen most valuable player in 1976 and 1977. Casey graduated from Mississippi State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Math Education. 

Casey’s first coaching job was at Durant High School, where he coached men’s and women’s basketball. While at Durant, he was E.C.A.C. Coach of the Year four times.  Then Casey went to Saks High School in Anniston, Ala., where he coached boys’ basketball for three years. He was Anniston Star/Calhoun County Coach of the Year in 1989.

Switching sports, he then coached football at his alma mater, Ethel High School. Following his tenure at Ethel, it was on to Union High School, where he coached men’s basketball and fast-pitch softball. In 2003, he was named the Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star Coach in softball.

Casey’s wife, the former Wanda Crowder of Durant, attended Holmes in 1975. The Casey’s have three adult children, Scott, Emily and Jacob.

A former student and softball player at Holmes, Mandy Clark-Walker returns to her alma mater to assume the position of assistant softball coach. Walker is entering her third season for Holmes Community College.

Walker joins Ricky Casey’s staff after spending five seasons as a head coach at the high school level, where she had a .500 record.

Walker’s duties include coaching the outfielders, assisting with the offense, overseeing the team managers, summer camp coordination, and maintaining team statistics as well as opponents’ scouting reports. She also assists in administrative duties, such as recruiting, scheduling, and monitoring the academic progress of the softball players. Other responsibilities for Walker include keeping in touch with softball alumni for the purpose of organizing the annual softball alumni game during homecoming weekend.

Academically for the college, Mandy teaches classes under the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation department. She specializes in teaching the First Aid and CPR/AED class after receiving her instructor certification from the American Red Cross. Mandy also teaches online courses for the Holmes e-Learning department. As well as being a teacher, Mandy is responsible for being an academic advisor in the health related professions major.

Walker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from the University of Mississippi in 2001 and a Master of Sports Science degree in Sports Coaching from the United States Sports Academy in 2006.

Mandy married Josh Walker in March 2009 and the couple resides in Goodman with their son, Jayden.
