e-Learning - Admissions

  1. Apply for Admission. You must apply for admission and be accepted to Holmes before you can register for any classes. Click here to read about Admissions Requirements for part-time and full-time students. In general, you will need to fill out an application for admission and have transcripts sent to the Admissions and Records Office. Note that it may take them several days to process your applicaton and transcripts. You will need to fulfull these requirements before you attempt to register.
  2. Update Application. If you have applied and been accepted for admission in the past, but have gaps in enrolling into courses (whether day, evening, or internet-based) at Holmes, you must update your application before you can be registered into online classes. For example, if you wish to register into internet-based courses for the Fall term, but did not attend Holmes during the Spring, you must fill out a new application and send it to the Admissions & Records Office. (Summer is not included in the determination of your "gaps" of attendance at Holmes.) You can find a link for the form in the Admissions & Records Office area of the Holmes Community College website.
  3. Clear all Holds. Another major reason that students are denied admission into internet-based courses is because of a hold on the student's account. This may mean that you owe money to the school or have an academic suspension. If you suspect you may have a business office hold, please clear it before attempting registration to avoid the frustration of having your registration denied. You can contact one of the support staff of the Business Office to clear up a business office hold.
  4. Advising. Contact your designated advisor to discuss what classes you should take to attain your goals. This is true for traditional classroom courses, as well as for internet-based courses. Not doing so will increase the odds that you will register into classes that you may not need. You should also take a look at the basic requirements for taking an internet-based course. You can find this information under the "Prospective Student" menu option. Also, there is a Blackboard Orientation. This will give you a feeling of what the environment of Blackboard is like.
